トロント大学が候補に入ると、どのキャンパスでどんな授業が取れるのか、寮に入れるのかが気になりますよね。
私は、カナダいちばんの研究大学で、専門の授業を英語でしっかり受けたい人にとって、トロント大学は北米で最初に検討していい交換留学先だと思っています。
ただ、いちばんの壁は住まいで、中心部のキャンパスの寮はほとんど期待できません。

トロント大学への出願の締切は秋学期、冬学期、通年のどれも4月1日です（学部生）。
推薦のときに選んだキャンパスと学部は、あとから変えられません。

1. 大学の特徴

トロント大学は1827年に創立した大学で、大学はカナダで一貫してトップの大学と紹介しています。
キャンパスは中心部のSt. Georgeと、郊外のMississauga（UTM）、Scarborough（UTSC）の3つです。
2025年度の学生は約10万人で、そのうち留学生は約2万8千人、176の国と地域から来ています。

インスリンの発見でノーベル賞を受けたバンティングや、2024年にノーベル物理学賞を受けた人工知能のヒントンがいた大学です。
大学は、臨床医学の研究で世界2位、人工知能で世界3位の評価を受けていると紹介しています。
図書館は40館あり、カナダ最大の研究図書館です。

交換留学先として使える環境を、学術、履修、英語、住居の4項目で星にしました。
大学の知名度ではなく交換留学生が実際に選べる授業と生活の条件で付けています。

個人的には、星2つの「住居の確保しやすさ」がこの大学を選ぶかどうかの分かれ目だと思っています。

2. 授業と履修

トロント大学の交換では、所属大学が推薦するときにキャンパスと学部を決めます。
大学のページは、この選択は「あとから変えられない」と書いています。
同じトロント大学でも、St. GeorgeのArts & Science、工学部、UTM、UTSCで取れる授業がまったく違うので、まずここを決めることが大切です。

交換留学生は1学期に3〜5科目を取り、半期の授業1つが0.5 creditなので1.5〜2.5 creditsになります。
工学部に推薦された人は1学期4〜5科目で、Arts & Scienceの授業は2科目までです。
1学期だけの交換では、9月から4月まで続く通年の授業は取れません。

人気の分野には制限があります。
St. GeorgeのビジネスのRotman Commerceは、東京大学、京都大学、慶應義塾大学などのページで、交換留学生は取れないと書かれています。
ビジネスを学びたいなら、UTMかUTSCに推薦される必要があり、そこでも席は取りにくいとされています。
コンピュータサイエンスは、所属大学でその専攻でない学生は、300・400番台の授業を3科目までしか取れません。
専門の授業を目当てにするなら、所属大学がどのキャンパスと学部に推薦できるかを最初に確かめておくと安心です。

授業の登録は夏に始まり、出願のときに書いた授業に自動で登録されることはありません。
登録は保証されず、前提科目を済ませておく必要もあります。
着いてから最初の2週間の動き方は履修登録で失敗しないための記事にまとめています。

成績は90点以上がA+で、50点未満は不合格のFです。
85点以上はAで、どちらもGPAでは4.0になります。

ここに並べたのは、2026-27年度の授業カタログ（Academic Calendar）に載っている学部の授業のうち、半期の授業の名前です。
多くはSt. GeorgeのArts & Scienceの授業で、ビジネス・経営と教育の多くはMississauga校、工学3分野は工学部、建築はDaniels（建築学部）の授業なので、そこに推薦された人だけが取れます。
St. GeorgeのRotman Commerceの授業と、交換留学生が取れないと明記された授業は載せていません。
カタログに載っていても毎学期開かれるとは限らないので、出願の前にその学期の時間割で確かめてください。

3. 語学要件

トロント大学が学部の交換留学生に求める英語は、次のどれかです。

TOEFL iBT（2026年1月21日より前の試験）は総合89以上で、SpeakingとWritingが各22以上
TOEFL iBT（2026年1月21日からの新方式）は総合4.5以上で、Writing 4.5以上、Speaking 4.0以上
IELTS（Academic）は総合6.5以上で、どの技能も6.0以上
Duolingo English Testは総合120以上で、Productionも120以上

スコアは受けた日から2年有効で、トロント大学の出願締切の時点で有効である必要があります。
TOEIC、TOEFL ITP、TOEFLのMyBest Scoresは使えません。
語学要件の全体の相場はIELTSのスコア別の記事とTOEICだけで応募できるかの記事で比べられます。

法学部はTOEFL iBT 100かIELTS 7.0（各6.5以上）と、さらに高くなります。
京都大学の一覧では、学部生はIELTS 6.5〜7.0かTOEFL iBT 89〜100が必要で、専攻によって違います。

個人的には、TOEFLで出す人は、自分のスコアが新方式か旧方式かを先に確かめておくのがおすすめです。
2026年1月から点数の出し方が変わり、古い「89点、各22点」の情報だけを見ていると基準を取り違えやすいからです。

4. 出願と学期の日程

トロント大学には直接出願できず、所属大学からの推薦が必要です。
オンラインの出願は毎年1月に開き、学部生の締切は秋学期、冬学期、通年のどれも4月1日です。
推薦の締切はトロント大学のページに書かれていないので、所属大学の窓口で確かめてください。
所属大学の学内選考はこの推薦より前に終わっている必要があります。

学部生には、5月中旬から下旬に受入の結果がメールで届きます。
工学部の資料によると、2026-27年度の学期は次のとおりです。

秋学期は9月8日に授業が始まり、12月8日に授業が終わり、期末試験は12月10〜22日
冬学期は1月11日に授業が始まり、4月13日に授業が終わり、試験は4月15〜29日

10月下旬と2月中旬には、1週間ほどの休みがあります。
京都大学の全学交換は秋学期開始のみ、当面は1学期までと決まっているので、所属大学の条件も合わせて確かめてください。
受入許可が届くまでに日本側でやることは、学内選考に通った後の手続きの記事で時系列にまとめています。

5. 住まいと費用

トロント大学は、多くの交換留学生が学外に住むと書いています。
St. Georgeの交換留学生は寮が保証されず、申し込んでも入れる見込みは「とても低い」とされています。
UTMは通年か夏の交換なら寮を保証していますが、1学期の交換には優先枠が少しあるだけです。
UTSCも保証はなく、上級生向けの待機リストに申し込みます。

トロントの賃貸は12か月契約がいちばん多く、短い期間の部屋は限られます。
大学は、契約の前に部屋を実際に見るよう強く勧めていて、外務省もカナダでの架空の物件を使った詐欺に注意を呼びかけています。
大学の目安では、St. Georgeの近くの住まいは月1,400〜2,700カナダドルです。

住まいのほかに見ておきたい費用は次の4つです。

交換留学生は大学の保険（UHIP）に自動で入り、2026-27年度は月79カナダドル、1学期で316カナダドルです。
1学期（6か月以下）なら学生ビザ（study permit）はいりませんが、電子渡航認証（eTA）が必要です。
通年で行くならstudy permitが必要で、申請料は150カナダドル、生体情報の登録が85カナダドルです。
地下鉄やバスは1回3.30カナダドルで、大人の月間パスは2026年8月末でなくなりました。

UHIPは歯科や処方薬の多くが対象外なので、大学は到着前に旅行保険も買うよう勧めています。

6. 国と街のくらし

国別の勉強・文化・くらしの記事から、カナダの項目のうちトロントの生活に関係するものを抜き出しました。

大学の資料では、トロントの冬の平均気温はマイナス4.6度で、1〜2月がいちばん寒く日も短くなります。
外務省は、冬から春先は路面が凍るので滑りにくい靴を用意するよう書いています。
留学生が176の国と地域から来ている大学なので、いろいろな国の学生と知り合えるのも魅力です。
